Up to the end of the 2002 hockey season, GYHA was
strictly a travel youth hockey organization.
In spring 2003, we merged the three formerly independent hockey programs into one community
program consisting of travel, recreation and select teams.
In the summer of 2004 we joined the Carolinas Hockey League (CHL), a merger of the former MAHL and ECYHL, for our travel and house select programs.
To maximize the success of the organization, GYHA
has three objectives:
- To establish a hockey program that provides multiple levels of
competition for our players to ensure a positive and rewarding
hockey experience.
- To offer the players and coaches a hockey program that builds
both on ice and off ice hockey/life skills. This falls within the
responsibility of our Hockey Committee that is staffed and lead by
former hockey players and coaches.
- To foster a hockey program that is community-oriented.
11 working committees with 5 to 7 people and at least one board member
each are working towards this objective. If you have an interest in
being part of committee, please contact your team manager to pass your
name along.

Communication within GYHA
- The GYHA Board is responsible for decision making on key
issues. The principle contact is
Shelby Montgomery, the President.
- Team managers are the best source of information for
parents and players since they act as link between the Board, the
scheduler, tournament organizers, CHL and
parents, coaches and players.
